Think of a Tree. It could be a specific tree that is important to you. Maybe one that you pass on your way to work, or one that was in your grandparent’s backyard growing up. What tree was it? For me it was a huge weeping willow in my grandparent’s backyard growing up. It provided shade for the deck and was a backdrop for innumerable family get togethers.
This past week Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District hosted our Tree Sale pickup as well as passed out trees to residents in various communities. We sold nearly 3,000 trees and handed out even more. Part of our mission is to be a part of reforestation efforts in Cuyahoga County. Between 2011-2017 Cuyahoga County lost almost 7,000 acres of trees! Trees have many benefits including reducing the Heat Island Effect and sequestering carbon.
Trees are important for more reasons than just their environmental benefits. They can provide a place where you can climb or swing. They help form lasting memories. They also provide peace and respite in an increasingly chaotic world. With Earth Day and Arbor Day coming up go out and enjoy a tree, or better yet, plant one.
If you would like more information on how to plant a tree, what trees you could plant, or the benefits of trees, check out this page or contact any of our staff. We love to talk trees!
