Our Native Urban Tree Starters Program (N.U.T.S.) is a great opportunity for students to learn some of the basics of tree identification and why growing native trees species is so important. At the end of three learning sessions, all led by a Cuyahoga SWCD Educator, each student will the get the chance to grow one of their own from seed to either take home and plant or donate to a different tree planting program here in Cuyahoga County. Participation in the N.U.T.S. Program is free.
The N.U.T.S. Program was designed for 3rd graders and aligns with the following Ohio State Science Standards:
3.LS.3: Plants and animals have life cycles that are part of their adaptations for survival in their natural environments.
3.LS.2: Individuals of the same kind of organism differ in their inherited traits. These differences give some individuals an advantage in surviving and/or reproducing.
3.LS.1: Offspring resemble their parents and each other.
