We want to see only rain going down the storm drain. Cuyahoga SWCD’s Stormwater team helps communities minimize pollution from rain and snow runoff.
Stormwater runoff – any rainwater or melting snow that falls on the land and flows to the nearest sewers, streams, or lakes – has a major impact on water quality and is one of the leading causes of stream impairment in Cuyahoga County. Increasing development activity throughout the county and expanding impervious surfaces has increased the amount of stormwater runoff in our communities, which can lead to flooding, erosion, and property damage. To manage this runoff, cities utilize a network of stormwater infrastructure to minimize the impact of development on local waterways and natural resources, including the health of Lake Erie. Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District’s stormwater services provide our communities with tools and technical expertise to effectively manage stormwater runoff, maintain resilient infrastructure, and minimize pollution.
