The Euclid Creek Watershed Program is made up of the Euclid Creek Watershed Council, Friends of Euclid Creek, and the Euclid Creek Watershed Program Manager.
Euclid Creek Watershed encompasses 24 square miles in northeastern Cuyahoga County and a portion of Lake County. It covers portions of 11 communities, 10 of which are Cuyahoga County communities.
The Euclid Creek Watershed Program is made up of the Euclid Creek Watershed Council (the nine municipal communities that govern the program), Friends of Euclid Creek (a grassroots, non-profit watershed group), and the Euclid Creek Watershed Program Manager – the program’s full time staff housed at Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District. Since 2004, the program has developed a Euclid Creek Watershed Action Plan, established an annual public involvement and education program plan, and secured more than $3.7 million in funding to implement projects and programs recommended in the Watershed Action Plan on the ground.
The Euclid Creek Watershed Council (ECWC) was established in 2004 to promote cooperation in addressing watershed issues in the Euclid Creek watershed, including implementing the Watershed Action Plan for the Euclid Creek. The Council is a 10-member Council that meets three times per year and is composed of the mayor of each participating community or their official designee. Cuyahoga SWCD’s Watershed Coordinator is also a member of the Council, serving as the Secretary.
Friends of Euclid Creek (FOEC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) advocacy organization organized in 2003 to support the development of a watershed action plan and health of the environment in the Euclid Creek Watershed. FOEC strives to serve as the civilian voice for the Euclid Creek Watershed, while raising awareness about and preserving the watershed’s precious natural features of the watershed.
Friends of Euclid Creek is comprised of approximately 80 members, who are residents of the eleven communities located within the watershed, and pay annual membership dues. FOEC provides monthly educational meetings and/or field trips for members and friends. All meetings are open and free for the public.
