The Rocky River Watershed Program is made up of the Rocky River Watershed Council, Cuyahoga SWCD’s Rocky River Watershed Coordinator, and support for our municipal partners.
The Rocky River Watershed consists of the entire area where rain drains to the Rocky River. It covers 294 square miles from Medina to Lake Erie, and includes all or part of 32 municipalities and townships located in four different counties.
Since 2006, the Rocky River Watershed Council (RRWC) has worked with many regional partners to create watershed plans identifying pollutant sources, water quality issues, and implementing solutions. RRWC is made up of dues-paying members who elect a board of directors each year, and is supported by a Watershed Partner Service Agreement from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD). Through this agreement, Cuyahoga SWCD helps staff operations for the RRWC. In collaboration with RRWC and other municipal partners, we organize education and involvement events, oversee restoration projects, and update watershed plans that help protect and improve water quality in Rocky River.
The interagency cooperation between RRWC, it’s stakeholders represented on the board of directors, and the many regional partner organizations has been crucial to the success of the Rocky River Watershed Program. Partners have included – but are not limited to – the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Ohio Department of Agriculture, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, NEORSD, Medina County Parks District, Medina SWCD, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Cleveland Metroparks, Western Reserve Land Conservancy, our watershed’s municipal governments, and many others. The RRWC thanks all its partners for their ongoing support.
